While March Madness fever hits everyone, keep an eye out for where Peyton Manning is gonna go.  Now that he’s left the Colts, he’ll be hunting for a new breeding ground.  With Andrew Luck most likely coming to the Colts from Stanford, they’ll be all set.  Peyton’s visited the Broncos, the Cardinals and the Dolphins.  Reports say that these are the teams that he’s most interested in.  While most of the sports world will be focused on their brackets, I’ll be keeping an eye on Peyton and seeing where he ends up.

I think that Peyton will be a great fit for the Dolphins or the Broncos.  More likely the Broncos.  I’m very sick of Tim Tebow.  I used to be a strong Peyton hater as is natural for a Patriot fan like myself, but Tim Tebow’s movement distracted me from Peyton and his year off.  The Broncos have a good offense that Peyton can get used to.  It’ll be easier for him to adapt and succeed over playing with struggling offenses like Miami or Arizona.  Peyton will be too frustrated playing with a weak offense like Miami’s because he won’t be able to look good.  A bad offense will make Peyton look bad.  The new-look Colts might not be good either with all the key players that left like Joseph Addai and Pierre Garçon.  While most of the sports world will be focused on their brackets, including me, I’ll be keeping an eye on Peyton and seeing where he ends up.

In Heather Dixon’s Entwined, the oldest daughter, Azalea, promises her mother to care for her younger eleven sisters. As the crown princess, she must also find a gentleman worthy to be king. Nonetheless, Dixon’s retelling of the “Twelve Dancing Princess” is lighthearted in its encounters with the princess and by far is more intimate into their lives. Yet, the place they escape to is slightly darker and masked. Old secrets hide the truth of the pavilion, old enemies lurk in the walls of the palace, and old magic objects disguise themselves in the vast castle. Yet, the pavilion is a solace, an oasis where the princesses can dance freely. They dance freely until magic is lost.

Slightly more true to the fairytale voice than was Everneath, Entwined is a heartening read. It begins slowly, as the reader, at first, questions how romantic or thrilling is the book. However, within turns of pages, the reader is inundated by secrets, cute little meetings, and captivating, distrustful characters. Entwined is a five-star book for the hopeless romantic. However, the writing of the book is not complicated, but true to the voice of a sixteen-year old. Alas, do not look for any SAT words in it, but since its spring break time, I guess that’s a good thing.

The protagonist, Princess Azalea lives a rather humble life for a princess. Within a year, she is overwhelmed by new responsibilities. She is the oldest sister: kind and caring. Yet, she is far from a damsel in distress, as Azalea is brave. Her femininity is ensured by her dancing abilities and by her comparison to the brash Bramble, her sister. Her reliability and experience is also maintained by her juxtaposition to her childish sisters and her consistent actions of looking out for her siblings. When the King, their father, orders them to the room after a tragic death in their family for mourning, Azalea embarks on a journey to find a place for her sisters to enjoy themselves: the pavilion. However, Dixon also places a great deal of comic relief in the novel in the form of the personalities of the other sisters. Bramble, ill-mannered, brash, and violently-tempered, is hilarious in her dialogue and her constant throwing-of-things at the suitors. Clover, kind and gentle, is considered the prettiest of the sisters, causing many suitors to believe that she is the crown princess, and, thus, creating many an awkward situation. Delphium, the cynic, the mischievous twins, as well as the other sisters serve as great additions to the character list. The suitors are also cleverly described, giving each one a certain personality, regardless of their length of stay. Nevertheless, the transformation of the King is definitely the most enjoyable.

Entwined is an enchanting read for the person longing for a fairy-tale themed novel. Light-hearted, the novel is sure to make you smile.

One way that Lord and Taylor advertises their many prom looks is through their annual “I <3 Prom” fashion show that takes place in many different Lord and Taylor stores across the United States. Each show invites high school girls to participate as their model for a day, meaning they have their makeup done by professional makeup artists, and they get to wear one of Lord and Taylor’s fabulous dresses. All girls are allowed, no matter size, skin color, hair color, or height. Every girl is wanted to strut all they have down the runway to show off the incoming prom looks.

Not only did I attend the event, but I also received the amazing opportunity to walk down the runway as one of the models. Even though I normally see myself as more of a “behind the scenes” type of girl, I had one of the best times seeing a runway show from a different point of view. Surrounded by plenty of actual models and pageant queens, I thought that at first I was way out of my league, but the other girls partaking in the event were more than complimentary even though this was my first time. I was put in a short, white and cream tulle gown with beading and sparkles pinned to small sections of the dress, and I wore pastel pink heels that were higher than any I had ever worn before. Each dress was placed in a category of either “I <3 Brights”, “I <3 Hi-Lo Hems”, “I <3 Goddess”, or “I <3 Shine”. All of these categories are based off the common trends that have been seen often this spring, and I fittingly was placed in the “I <3 Shine” trend. The best part of this day was not only pretending that I was a model and also looking like one, but it was the experience of walking out in front of the audience, and all of your nervous, anxious feelings just disappear with every step you take. For the event itself, there was a huge turnout; dozens of people were there to see the 2012 spring prom looks, whether it was the supportive parents in the front row or the random bystanders who happened to be in the dress department at that time. Every person looked as if they enjoyed the show, and from the point of view as a model, that’s all you can hope for.

The “I <3 Prom” fashion show was one to remember and hopefully, as it goes onto its fourth year, more and more girls will partake as a model, and more people will join in to watch the event.

First, get rid of your converses and get a real pair of workout “kicks.” Depending on the brand, the prices vary from an Avia $25 running pair, to a $100+ Asics or Nike running shoe. My preference has always been Asics, with a comfortable gel sole. The store I go to near my is called City Sports, where they find out what kind of arch your foot has, accommodating the best shoe for you. Stores like City Sports or Olympia Sports don’t do this, so look around for a local running or marathon shop, and you’d be surprised by the perks! I settled with a pair of red Gel Asics sneakers at $100. Those things feel like clouds under my feet, both comfortable and stealthy, an A+.

Then we move on to shorts. The average guy works out in basketball shorts, regardless of the sport. My advice in that matter is to invest in lighter, thinner shorts than can allow extra movement if you aren’t playing basketball. Sometimes as a guy we have to swallow our pride and wear the “short shorts,” even if they do provide the best advantage. My advice is to wear a type of spandex or Under Armor apparel underneath to not feel awkward. The combination will have you looking fresh and prepared for the game. Warning, don’t wear clothing that says “Varsity” on it if you aren’t on a team, avoiding the funny explanation of why your aren’t as athletic as you advertised. That awkward moment has happened to me quite a few times.

Lastly, there is the situation regarding T-shirts. If you tend to sweat a lot as you work out, as I usually do, wear an undershirt. The undershirt absorbs a good percent of your sweat, making everyone look less disgusting after a great workout. My policy regarding work out shirts is based on likeability. If you think you would wear that shirt outside to hang out with friends, don’t work out in it. All those random community related T-shirts or Tye-Dyes can be placed to good use!  The general rule for workout clothes is to wear the specific sport’s clothing, in the most comfortable way possible. As long as you feel fine walking about, you will feel great running, jumping, kayaking, etc. Good luck to all those future runners and exercise fanatics, and keep your resolutions!

This miracle worker comes in many shapes and sizes, all with slightly different uses. Unfortunately, primer is often pricey and adds another step to your makeup routine. For some women, these downsides cannot outweigh the benefits of better looking, longer lasting makeup. If you think that you may be one of those women, then read on.

The most common type of primer is eyelid primer. Eyelid primer is used to make your eyeshadow go on brighter and to prevent creasing or fallout. It is especially useful for those with greasy eyelids. Urban Decay’s Primer Potion ($20) is a cult favorite that now comes in multiple colors and finishes. Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance ($18) is another critically acclaimed eyelid primer. This primer comes in an adorable easy-to-use blue tube, and dries clear on the lids.

Another popular type of primer is foundation or face primer. As the name suggests, it is applied on the face underneath foundation, concealer, blush, ect., to create a smooth airbrushed appearance. Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36) is considered one of the best primers on the market. It won the Best of Sephora award for 2008, and has a rating of about 4.6/5 on their website.This type of primer can go on in clear, nude, or other neutral colors. 

After face and eye primer, there are a few more unusual primers. One of them is eyelash primer. Eyelash primer usually comes in a tube similar to mascara, except the primer is often a bright white, as opposed to the dark black of mascara. It is meant to lift, separate, and lengthen your eyelashes. In some ways, it is essentially exactly the same as mascara in its uses, but it provides a benefit that just mascara cannot.

 Applying primer before mascara allows you to get the best out of your mascara without your lashes getting clumpy or ‘spider’ lashes. This may be an unneeded step for some women, but to certain people eyelash primer is a great tool to give short lashes that extra length.  Dior’s Diorshow Maximizing Lash Plumping Serum & Primer ($28) and  ($20) are two exemplary primers.

The last type that we’ll touch on is lip primer. Lip primer goes underneath your lip liner, lipstick, and lipgloss. It can help neutralize your natural lip color so that the color will go on brighter, and prevents your color from rubbing off so easily, The two best on the market are Urban Decay’s Lip Primer Potion ($20), and Too Faced’s Lip Insurance Lip Primer ($19).

Primer is not a product for everybody. Some people may find it a tedious, unnecessary step in the makeup process. Others love the look it gives them, and argue that it cuts time out because you will not have to reapply your makeup. If you are truly interested in primer, go to your local makeup store and speak with an employee about samples so that you can see for yourself. As always, experimenting is the best method to finding your perfect makeup!

Tim Tebow spoke to the media on Monday about becoming a Jet in New York as his press conference rolled on.  He said “I’m so honored and humbled to be a Jet and thankful that they wanted me.”  When Tim Tebow was asked about how Mark Sanchez, the current QB, feels about working with him, Tebow responded, “we will have a great working relationship.”  He went on to say that “hopefully we will be able to thrive together.”  Tim Tebow vowed to “give my whole heart to the team and be the best Jet that I can be.”  On whether or not he could play other roles on the team if Sanchez remains the quarterback, he said, “However I can make a difference, I am open to it.”  He frequently made statements referring to how excited he was to finally become a Jet and he did thank “my lord and savior Jesus Christ”, as he is known throughout the NFL as a very religious player.  Tebow’s press conference would consist of him repeating himself frequently, saying about 9-10 times in his statements how thankful he was to be a Jet.  He would also frequently repeat himself saying that Jesus Christ is his lord and savior. What this press conference tells us is that he’s open to working hard to compete with Sanchez for the top spot and that we’re going to see some interesting things happen in training camps before the 2012-2013 NFL season.

Another NFL story worthy of a quick note is that Saints’ coach Sean Payton, who was suspended for the Bountygate scandal approached Bill Parcells to possibly be the head coach for the season because of the suspension handed out to Payton by the NFL.
